Kurshskaya spit is a narrow stripe of land, a peninsula, stretching for 98 kilometers from south to north. The spit starts at the Sambia Peninsula and stretches up to the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda in the north. The Kurshskaya spit is a natural dam which separates the salty waters of the Baltic Sea from the fresh waters of the Kurshskey Bay with its inhabitants, the birds and fish which live there. The National Park “Kurshskaya spit” is a UNESCO world heritage site.
